A very special event celebrating the Voice of Western Swing, Tommy
Duncan!
Career inspiration and hero for Billy Mata, Tommy Duncan is regarded
as the inventor of the classic singing style
that made Western Swing the enduring music it is today. Last year
was Tommy Duncan's (posthumous) 100th Birthday.
A grand celebration was held in Whitney, Texas, Tommy's home town.
Billy Mata & the Texas Tradition were joined by
Tommy's brother, Glynn Duncan and a host of musicians and
dignitaries to honor the occasion with a concert
like no other.
Anyone who attended will tell you the experience was magic.
We're doing it again in 2012 - this time in nearby Hillsboro, Texas,
just a few miles down the road from Whitney.
The venue will be larger and there will be even more music and
mayhem and a catered dinner, all led by
Master of Ceremonies, Larry Scott.

Texas Tradition fiddler, RICHARD HELSLEY explains:
"Billy Mata and The Texas Tradition have stepped up in a big way for
the Judson Orchestra program by donating
proceeds from this regularly scheduled Martinez Social Club dance to
assist with funding of the Judson Orchestra
Booster Organization. In addition to fine traditional country and
western swing music by Billy and the boys there
will be a silent auction along with the sale of brisket and sausage
wraps to add to the fund raising efforts. At this
point in time Billy and the Texas Tradition are our leading sponsor
and I am thrilled that I was able to bring both
of my jobs together in this way."

these high school students very personally and
have really created more of a family atmosphere in my program than
simply a teacher/student relationship.
I made a promise to one of my fiddle instructors years ago that I
